NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A New Jersey woman will spend time behind bars in Montgomery County after pleading guilty to stealing about $1 million from her employer.

Linda Mansi, 54, from Tuckerton, New Jersey, is sentenced to 11 ½  to 23 months in Montgomery County Correctional Facility, followed by three years of probation for stealing $1.2 million from Arnold’s Furniture in Bridgeport.

“That's a family-owned and -operated business of about 55 employees currently,” said prosecutor Gwen Kull. “So it is a small business, and her theft throughout the past six years has significantly impacted that business to the point where they had to lay off employees, and they weren't able to make certain ends meet.”

Mansi was vice president of finance and human resources. She set up a separate account that only she could access. She used that account for online gambling, Phillies season tickets, vacation and airfare, her son’s lawyer and his prison commissary account.

Mansi’s lawyer asked for probation saying Mansi’s mother lives with her and requires around-the-clock care.

But Kull argued, while Mansi’s mother may depend on her, there were a lot of people who depended on the company Mansi stole from.

Kull also argued jail time was necessary, as it’s the third time Mansi has been convicted of theft from an employer, getting probation the two previous times — in 1998 and in 2010.

Mansi is also ordered to pay $900,000 in restitution to Arnold’s Furniture, and to reimburse two insurance companies that covered some of the stolen funds.

The owner of the company says the economic consequences are endless, adding the betrayal cuts into his heart.
