Nor’easter could bring heavy snow to the Philadelphia region this weekend

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Keep the snow shovel out.

A potential offshore nor’easter could bring lots of snow to the Philadelphia region this weekend.

The storm is still taking shape as of Wednesday morning, but the National Weather Service of Philadelphia/Mount Holly anticipates snow showers to begin Friday afternoon into Saturday.

There’s a chance of snow starting around 2 p.m., followed by rain and more snow. NWS predicts less than a half-inch, if anything. However, things pick up overnight, with the most snowfall set for late Friday night into Saturday.

The nor’easter is still forming, but snow showers with strong, gusty winds seem likely, says NBC10 meteorologist Bill Henley.

If the storm continues to move offshore, there would be less snow, which would mostly be confined to coastal areas. If the storm tracks west, there may be more snow in inland regions.

With several factors combined, NWS said the storm has the potential to bring 6 to 12 inches of snow to the region. Again, the nor’easter is still developing.

NWS also warns that accumulation may result in significant travel disruptions on Friday.
