NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Norristown teenager admitted to his role in a deadly robbery and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, to avoid being charged with murder as an adult.
The 17-year-old from Norristown admitted he was one of three people who jumped out of an SUV and robbed 35-year-old William Carter outside a home on Powell Street on Jan. 20 when Carter went out to get something from his car.
Prosecutors say during the robbery, Damon Brantley, 18, shot Carter three times and killed him. Jerry Butler and Daquan Allen, both 29 years old, are also charged with robbery and murder. Authorities say Allen was the driver and waited in the SUV.
According to charging documents, Carter was targeted because he had recently won $5,000 while gambling.
As part of the agreement, the 17-year-old will cooperate in the prosecution of the other three. He’ll then plead guilty to third-degree murder as a juvenile, and robbery as an adult. He’ll serve four years in a juvenile facility followed by five years probation.
Carter’s former girlfriend, Katherine Emel, has also agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. She pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and conspiracy in June, admitting she put a tracking device in Carter’s car, then shared his location with Allen. Allen paid her $700 after the robbery and murder.
