PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for a trio of suspects whom they believe may be connected to the killing of a 15-year-old last week in the Mayfair neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia.
The teen may have been a victim of an attempted carjacking.
Police say Sean Toomey’s father asked him to grab water from their car parked on Mulberry Street near Devereaux Street at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday night. They said the teen had just walked out when his father heard two popping sounds.
He first thought they were fireworks, but after his son didn’t return for a few minutes, the father ran outside to check and saw his 15-year-old was lying on the ground, shot in the head and side. He died Friday afternoon.
Sources say police are now tracking the movements of three suspects who were in the area about 10 minutes before the teen was shot, at first holding up a woman at gunpoint at the Citizens Bank ATM along Frankford Avenue near Robbins Avenue across from the Chickie’s and Pete’s.
A witness described seeing the suspects just before the shooting near the apartment complex on Mulberry Street.

The witness said they were looking into her car window where her son was sitting and trying door handles, all at about the same time Toomey’s father asked him to get the water from their car.
Detectives are now looking for any video in the area which may help them identify a suspect.
Authorities are pressing the public to call in any tips about the shooting, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
