PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you’re walking around Old City this weekend, you might see a swarm of British redcoats, or people pledging their allegiance to King George III. But don’t be alarmed, it’s all part of the Museum of the American Revolution’s Occupied Philadelphia event.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, and Sunday, Nov. 10, more than 70 costumed reenactors from across the east coast will take patrons back 247 years to show them what it was like when the British occupied Philadelphia.

American Revolution Museum Senior Manager of Gallery Interpretation Tyler Putman says the immersive experience aims to get people thinking about the American Revolution in a new light.

“We really value exploring surprising, diverse stories of how complicated the American Revolution was. These were real people who lived in uncertain times who didn’t know what was going to happen next,” Putman said.

People can engage with reenactors in and around the museum for free, but those especially curious can purchase tickets to in-depth walking tours at amrevmuseum.org, or in person at the museum.

Museum admission is free for those currently serving in the military, veterans, and Blue Star Families.
