MALVERN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Chester County District Attorney’s office says it’s too early in the investigation to know exactly what prompted a 31-year-old to carry a concealed handgun to the “No Kings” rally in West Chester earlier this month. But, after 13 pipe bombs were found in his home, they are asking for the public’s help in understanding his motives.
On July 14, a person alerted police that Kevin Krebs had a concealed handgun, several clips of ammunition and a bayonet as he approached the West Chester “No Kings” rally.
“On one hand, we're trying to balance rights versus, is this an act of terrorism, versus is this someone who's fascinated with explosives, right? And that's why we want to be fair to everyone,” said Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.
Krebs was initially charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license and released on bail, telling police and the FBI he wanted to protest peacefully, but also wanted to remain safe. That bail was revoked, and Krebs remains in custody after 13 pipe bombs were found in the Malvern home he shares with his brother.
According to de Barrena-Sarobe, his family reported to law enforcement that Krebs “is on the autism spectrum.”
de Barrena-Sarobe says they have not found a manifesto or any pre-written plans.
“We're going to continue to work through it to determine whether it meets some FBI threshold, like, sort of internal looking about a larger terrorism cell piece which is not present currently, or whether this is someone who's just fascinated with explosives.”
