PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A bill to reduce how much Pennsylvania School districts pay for cyber charter students is advancing in the state Legislature following a vote along party lines.
The Democrat-led state House on Wednesday passed the bill, which would establish a $8,000 cap per student.
Republican opponents said the measure would imperil online learning programs.
The bill would also prevent cyber charters from keeping cash balances above 12% of their spending. To add, the school would not be able to make payments or gifts to parents as incentives to enroll their children.
About 65,000 Pennsylvania students currently attend the state’s 14 public cyber charter schools.
