Pa. hits an all-time high for voter registration

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More than 9 million Pennsylvanians are currently registered to vote, according to the Department of State, and mail-in ballots are coming in droves.

Officials say more than 9 million Pennsylvanians are registered to vote, including 4.2 million Democrats, 3.5 million Republicans, and 1.3 million listed as independent or other.

“All-time high, very excited for the engagement,” Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar told reporters in her biweekly update call.

She said 2.8 million Pennsylvanians requested mail-in ballots and so far, 41% — or nearly 1.2 million — have been returned, doubling last week’s total.

“Counties have reported receiving a lot this week. They are still catching up processing those received,” she said.

Even though the Supreme Court this week ruled mail-in ballots received up to three days after the election will count in Pennsylvania, Boockvar said not to wait.

“I don’t care what the court says. Get your mail-in ballot in today,” she said.

As for voters worried about whether mail-in ballots are received, if you provided an email, you’ll be contacted by the county once it is scanned in. So far, 50,000 Pennsylvanians have voted early at in-person centers.

You can vote early in person or request a mail-in ballot until Oct. 27.
