PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania State Police are warning the public about a scam targeting elderly victims in which callers pose as bank fraud representatives.

Investigators say the scammers often have personal information, making their calls seem legitimate. They tell victims there are unauthorized charges on their accounts and instruct them to hand over their credit cards to a courier. A ride-share driver, usually from Uber, is then sent to the victim’s home to pick up the card and deliver it to the suspects.

Stolen cards have been used to make multiple purchases, mostly at Apple stores and retailers that sell Apple gift cards, including CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Walmart, according to police.

Investigators said Citadel Credit Union and TruMark Financial Credit Union customers in Pennsylvania have been affected by the scam, along with TD Bank customers in New Jersey.

State police stress that banks will never ask customers to give their credit cards to a courier. Authorities advise consumers to independently verify any request for information by contacting their bank directly. Anyone who suspects fraud should contact their bank and law enforcement immediately.

If you believe you’ve been targeted by this scam or have additional information, contact the Pennsylvania State Police Media Station at 610-558-7080 or email wcorvese@pa.gov, with the reference incident number PA 2025-1579236.
