Every year around this time, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announces the raising of tolls for the coming year, and 2024 is no different.
This time, it will be a 5% increase for all E-ZPass and toll-by-plate customers. The new rates go into effect on Jan. 7, 2024.
Tolls are expected to rise by another 5% in 2025. Starting in 2028, tolls are expected to rise by 3%.
Tolls have been raised every year for the last 15 years, as the commission is required by law to send $400 million a year to PennDOT.
Unless legislation is passed, tolls will continue to increase annually through 2053.
