PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Bourbon drinkers, get ready to drop some cash.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) has opened entry to its Limited-Release Lottery to buy one of 1,208 bottles of rare Kentucky whiskeys.
The five drawings are for different aged Pappy Van Winkle bourbons. According to the PLCB, Van Winkle’s bourbons are aged for at least 10 years, so annual production numbers cannot meet the demand, making these whiskeys some of the most sought-after in the world.
Pennsylvania residents and licensees have until Friday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. to enter one or more of the drawings. Lottery winners will be able to purchase one bottle. If a winner is selected, they will be removed from subsequent drawings.
The drawings will be held in the following order:
23-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon, $399.99 each
31 bottles for individual consumers, 10 bottles for licensees
15-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon, $149.99 each
59 bottles for individual consumers, 19 bottles for licensees
20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon, $249.99 each
70 bottles for individual consumers, 23 bottles for licensees
10-year-old Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade Straight Bourbon, $89.99 each
211 bottles for individual consumers, 70 bottles for licensees
12-year-old Van Winkle Special Reserve Straight Bourbon, $99.99 each
537 bottles for individual consumers, 178 bottles for licensees
According to the distillery, this year’s Van Winkle allocation has fewer bottles of the 10-, 12- and 15-year-old bourbons than in previous years due to lower-than-anticipated barrel yields. There is no 2021 release of the 13-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey.
Winners will be selected the week of Feb. 7.
Resale of products obtained through Limited Release Lotteries is prohibited.
