PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s staff has issued the first update on his condition since he entered Walter Reed Medical Center to be treated for depression 11 days ago.
“There’s no real news to report except that John is doing well, working with the wonderful doctors, and remains on a path to recovery,” spokesman Joe Calvello said in an emailed statement.
“He is visiting with staff and family daily, and his staff are keeping him updated on Senate business and news.”
A Feb. 16 statement said that Fetterman has experienced depression on and off throughout his life, but it became severe in recent weeks.
Calvello said Fetterman is still working for constituents while in recovery, and his staff opened a new office in Erie, last week.
Calvello said, though, that the recovery process will take “weeks.”
“We understand the intense interest in John’s status,” he said, “and especially appreciate the flood of well-wishes.”
Earlier in February, Fetterman was hospitalized overnight for what his office called “light-headedness,” but after negative stroke and seizure tests, he was discharged.
Last May, he was hospitalized for what he called a near-fatal stroke, but still won the Democratic primary for Senate and eventually the general election.
