PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — State police say $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in a 50-year-old cold case in the Lehigh Valley.

On Jan. 13, 1973, a group of young boys found Richard Stewart Wimbish’s body, wrapped in a sleeping bag, in Trout Creek in Slatington Borough in Lehigh County. He had been shot to death.

The 49-year-old Philadelphian was last seen leaving work more than two weeks earlier, in late December 1972.

Wimbish was a driver for the Pennsylvania Trucking Company, which was then located at 48th Street and Parkside Avenue in Philadelphia. His route took him from Philly to Scranton to Wilkes-Barre and throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.

Wimbish had planned to meet up with a woman on New Year’s Eve in Pleasantville, New Jersey, but he never showed up.

His 1967 green Cadillac was found several blocks from his home 10 days after his body was found.

Pennsylvania State Police say they are still hoping to solve the case, and they encourage anyone with any information about the case to call Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (1-800-472-8477) or submit a tip online.
