PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Like just about everything these days, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is getting a price hike next year.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission approved on Tuesday a 5% toll increase for all drivers. The new rates will take effect starting Jan. 8, 2023.
Rates with the 5% added will round up to the next dime. For example, the most common toll for a car will rise from $1.70 to $1.80 for E-ZPass holders and from $4.10 to $4.40 for toll-by-plate drivers.
Funds from the Pennsylvania Turnpike support transportation projects statewide, raking in $8 billion for PennDOT in the last 15 years.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has increased tolls each year since 2009. The commission plans to raise tolls 5% each year through 2025, then 4% in 2026, 3.5% in 2027, and 3% from 2028 to 2050.
