PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you’re trying to file a Pennsylvania unemployment claim this weekend, you won’t be able to do it online.

The decades-old system that caused a lot of headaches and complaints during the height of the pandemic is getting an update.

The new unemployment compensation system is set to launch Tuesday.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry officials hope it will be faster and easier to use than the old system.

Unemployment claims will be unavailable online until Monday, but phone lines and email are still open.

The department said they don’t expect many benefit disruptions, since the update is happening mostly over the weekend.

If you’re applying for benefits for the first time, you’ll have to wait until the new system is active.

Several virtual workshops and video tutorials are being offered to help people learn how to navigate the new site.
