SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — As the battle over the Second Amendment in New Jersey wages on in court, gun rights groups are looking to shrink the number of places where concealed carry is prohibited.
An emergency stay was previously issued by the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as New Jersey is working to prevent guns in what the state deemed “sensitive” places. Gun rights groups say that just about everywhere was included on the initial list of locations, noting that it would be virtually impossible to have a gun outside of your home and follow the laws.
Gov. Phil Murphy says he’s furious the gun lobby is trying to destroy the state’s gun laws, and it’s especially troubling to see “right-wing activists” working to remove restrictions in places like parks and at youth sports events. He says greed and fanaticism are behind their recent court filings.
Murphy said the state will continue to fight for the toughest gun laws in the country to ensure New Jersey stays one of the safest states.
In court filings, gun rights groups say the state is setting up blatantly unconstitutional roadblocks for legal gun owners and that the list of sensitive locations, including one’s own vehicle, is overly broad.
