PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement (OBME) has launched a virtual interactive tool, called the Black Male Resource Finder, for residents to access resources more effectively.
“It serves as a directory to connect Black men to the resources in their city,” said OBME Director Eric Westbrook.
“A lot of people say that there aren’t any resources, or there’s not enough. My argument is that I think there are, I just think the bridges to the resources aren’t as strong as they should be.”
He said it’s the latest tool to help bridge the opportunity divide for men of color. It’s user-friendly and packed with contact information of various agencies, businesses, community organizations and programs.
“Youth development, mentorship, job development, mental health and wellness. You can click on one of those buttons and it will open up a list of resources to check out,” Westbrook explained.
According to the latest Brotherly Love Health report, about 23% of Black men and boys live in poverty in Philadelphia, partially due to the gaps in services and opportunities.
To keep the finder fresh, Westbrook said there’s also an option for people to add more resources to the list.
