PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia is making progress in its commitment to invest in green energy to drive job creation. Since before the 2016 launch of the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, the city has invested $380 million in clean energy and created 3,275 green energy jobs.
A project of the Philadelphia Energy Authority, the Campaign’s mission is to invest $1 billion in energy efficiency and clean energy projects and create 10,000 jobs over 10 years.
The PEA is hosting Earth Week events, including informational sessions for residents, nonprofits and houses of worship to learn about the benefits of going green.
“People are pleasantly surprised with the programs we have. People think there's going to be a huge down payment and it is going to be unaffordable, but that is not the case,” said Stephanie Green, the PEA’s senior manager for workforce and business resources.
On Earth Day, there is a big community cleanup planned at the Fishtown Rec Center.
