PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The results are in.
The Sight and Sound magazine released its ranking of the top 100 greatest movies of all time and, to celebrate, the Philadelphia Film Society will be showing screenings of the movies throughout the year.
"We couldn't ignore the buzz about this list, and we thought, let's just get crazy and commit to doing all 100 films of the critic's poll throughout the entire year of 2023," said Trey Shields with the Philadelphia Film Society.
Their showings kicked off earlier this week with Jordan Peele's 2017 horror hit, "Get Out" – one of the few entrees from the 21st century that made it on the list.
While some entries are more recent, others are a bit dated, like Chantal Akerman's 1975 film, "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles," which landed the number one spot on the list.
Shields hopes the screenings will give audiences a chance to be captivated by the movie magic of days past and present.
"We're showing the rarely seen, not shown in Philadelphia – the black and white version of 'Parasite,' which director Bong Joon-ho prefers over the colored one.
