PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Finishers in the 2021 Philadelphia Marathon all received a medal of Independence Hall, but those medals depicted something that's not actually on top of the building where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed.
A cross. Or something that really looks like one.
KYW Newsradio Brand Manager Alex Silverman received one of the medals for finishing the marathon.
David Wilson, Deputy Managing Director for General Services, Arts and Events for the City of Philadelphia, explained they were trying to put a different object on top of Independence Hall on the medal.
"It's not intended to be a cross on top of Independence Hall. It's a weathervane," Wilson said.
"It was captured in the proof with the printing and design company, but skewed in the casting for some reason."
