PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man convicted of secretly recording college students in a Villanova University bathroom is facing new charges that he stole nude photos and posted them online without consent.
Prosecutors say 33-year-old Tyler J. Jones got ahold of cellphones belonging to five women or their boyfriends and then sent himself their naked pictures without their knowledge. Authorities said he then posted those pictures online.
Jones is a repeat offender. In 2013, he pleaded guilty to invasion of privacy charges for posting recordings he took of unknowing students inside a Villanova University bathroom, as well as charges involving images of minors.
The state is prosecuting Jones in the most recent case. He is charged with unlawful use of a computer and invasion of privacy.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said Jones is “weaponizing technology” in a way that impacts nearly every aspect of the victims’ lives.
Meanwhile, Jones is also facing a federal lawsuit in which he is accused of sharing hundreds of personal, explicit images of a Villanova professor on the internet. The outcome of that case is still pending.
Bail was set for Jones at $350,000. He has been ordered to stay away from the victims.
