PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Let’s hope this isn’t a bad omen for the Phillies’ 2022 season: New Phils slugger Nick Castellanos is rumored to have purchased Ben Simmons’ former mansion in Moorestown, New Jersey.

Mid-day host Anthony Gargano announced last week on 97.5 The Fanatic that Castellanos reportedly bought the $5 million estate.

Simmons listed the house in October 2021, during the peak of his will-he-won’t-he-play drama with the Sixers — well before he was traded to the Nets.

The 10,477-square-foot mansion was built in 2019 and includes five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Although housing sites still list the property as “for sale,” Castellanos’ mother, Michelle, more or less confirmed the rumor on Twitter. In response to the home sale, she said she brought her son a “house warming gift” and shared a picture of a sage-burning kit.

Many people use the ritual of sage-burning to cleanse a space of negative energy. Whether or not you believe in that kind of bad juju, it certainly couldn’t hurt to keep the new Phillie in good health and spirits.

KYW Newsradio reached out to the Moorestown real estate agent to confirm the sale but has not yet heard back.

The Phillies signed 30-year-old Castellanos last month to a five-year, $100 million contract. If his career goes the opposite direction as Simmons’, he’s likely to call Moorestown home for a while.
