SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — District Attorney Larry Krasner said the man who shot and killed an off-duty Philadelphia cop has been interviewed and turned over a gun to investigators.

That investigation remains open, according to Krasner, and no charges have been filed yet in the shooting that killed 29-year-old Alhassane Barry and left another man seriously wounded outside of Southwest Philadelphia hookah bar on Aug. 16.

“The shooter has come in to explain his version of what occurred. He does not dispute that he fired the gun,” said Krasner in a Thursday press conference. “He has described, and I will not get into the specifics, his version of what happened at that time.”

Krasner said some of what the alleged shooter said still needs to be investigated and other details do not.

Investigators are testing the gun to see if it was used in the shooting. Krasner said police have also obtained video from inside the hookah bar near 73rd Street and Elmwood Avenue— which has also been referred to as a speakeasy — and that there’s now an effort to shut the establishment down.

“The owner will have an opportunity to explain why this speakeasy should not be shut down,” said Krasner. “Why? Because we have filed papers seeking to shut it down.”

A court hearing on the matter is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Just weeks before the fatal shooting of Barry, Krasner said a woman was also fatally struck by a car near the establishment in the early morning hours.

Krasner said the investigation into Barry’s shooting could take months to conclude.
