PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — While Wednesday's rain made for a gloomy day for many around the city, for a 10-year-old business owner in South Philadelphia, it was the best day of his life. His pop-up lemonade stand is making a big splash into spring thanks to a local businessman.
Micah Harrigan enumerated his offerings.
"So the flavors that we have are ... we have three different teas. We have strawberry tea, peach tea, and watermelon tea. And then we have five lemonades: watermelon lemonade, regular lemonade, peach lemonade, strawberry lemonade, and blue raspberry lemonade," he said.
Harrigan is reaching new milestones and new customers.
"I’m really excited," Micah said. "I woke up today like 'Today’s the day.'"
His lemonade business, Micah's Mixx, has made its first supermarket premiere, thanks to Jeff Brown, CEO of Brown’s Super Stores Inc., which owns Shop Rites throughout Philadelphia and surrounding communities.
"Micah just really resonates with me," Brown said. "His enthusiasm and his business thinking."
It was a full-circle moment for the boy, since he and his "momager" (that's mom and manager) have been shopping at the Shop Rite store at 24th Street and Oregon Avenue for years. Not only did he sell every pint, but thanks to a sweet donation from Brown, he’s also one step closer to his next goal of opening up Micah's Mixx food truck.
"It feels great that the owner of the store that I literally went to for years believes in me and donated a lot of money to help me continue my business," Micah said.
The food truck is actually more like a mini bus, and Micah says he’s almost at his $15,000 goal. He hopes it will be open by the summer.
