PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A delivery driver was shot and killed Thursday night right outside the pizza shop where he works.
Officials say it happened around 9 p.m. near Ridge Avenue and Master Street in North Philly.
"He had just made a delivery. He was returning to the pizza place in order to pick up more food to deliver,” said Chief Police Inspector Scott Small.
Small says that's when a man walked up to the driver's side door and tried to open it.
"And that's when the driver put the vehicle in reverse, tried to get away, and the perpetrator still held on to the car door, continued to try to open it when the driver backed into a parked car. That's where the vehicle came to rest.”
The man then fired at least six shots, killing the 29-year-old driver, identified as Danny Matthews of Harlan Street.
The shooting was caught on the pizza shop's surveillance video.
The suspect is described as 5-foot-10 with a medium build. He was last seen walking south on Ridge Avenue wearing all dark clothing and hoodie, with the hood pulled up.
