PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police tracked down a burglary suspect using dogs and a drone after they say he and a woman were squatting in a house in Wayne for a week.
The owner of the home returned on Sunday after a week and found it ransacked.
Radnor police were called to the house and deployed a police dog. Inside, they found 39-year-old Nicole DiPietro, of Springfield, who was taken into custody without incident.
However, another trespasser, 45-year-old William Quirk, of Broomall, climbed out of a second-story window and fled on foot into a wooded area.
Radnor police, along with officers from Lower Merion and Haverford, followed. The Lower Merion Police Department directed them with an aerial drone using thermal technology.
Officers caught up with Quirk and he was apprehended by a police dog. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Investigators said Quirk and DiPietro were staying in the house illegally for almost a week, where they “engaged in criminal behavior.”
The two have both been charged with burglary, trespassing, theft and related offenses. They remain in the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Delaware County.
