PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Several police cars were vandalized early Sunday morning after officers tried to break up a large crowd of people and dirt bikers outside Rivers Casino in Fishtown.
Shortly after midnight, the Philadelphia Police Department said an officer tried to disperse a crowd that was blocking access in and out of the parking lot of the casino, and vehicles were doing donuts in the middle of Delaware Avenue.
The crowd became more aggressive, officials said, and several jumped on the officer’s patrol car and banged on the windows.
When a backup officer arrived, members of the crowd pounded on that vehicle as well, flattening its tires.
It wasn’t until several more patrol cars arrived, police said, that the crowd began to leave.
Another patrol car was also vandalized about a mile away in Spring Garden, near North Sixth and Callowhill streets.
No officers were injured in either incident.
