PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a 16-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder while she was in a car in West Philadelphia on Thursday night.
The shooting happened in the area of 51st and Brown streets at around 10:30 p.m. Police say, when officers got to the scene, they saw two bullet-riddled cars, one had blood in the front and back seats, and the victim had already been taken to the hospital.
Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, citing witness accounts, said that someone went up to one of the cars, with four females inside, and started to fire.
Police say the girl who was shot is in stable condition. No one else was hurt which police say is remarkable considering that at least 25 shots were fired from two different guns. No one has been arrested.
This week, the city passed 500 shooting victims for the year, according to police data. That is a 38% increase compared to the same time frame in 2020.
