PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has been arrested after he attacked a 27-year-old woman of Asian heritage near 11th and Filbert streets on Sunday just before 2 p.m.
Investigators say Alex White, 30, walked up to the woman and hit her across the face without saying anything to her. She was taken to the hospital and will recover physically.
White is charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
With attacks continuing to increase against Asian Americans, authorities say this incident doesn't appear to be a racially motivated, as the suspect has a history of mental health issues, according to court documents.
White, who is homeless, has been arrested several times before for aggravated assault and simple assault, and he has spent years in and out of prison.
According to court documents, White's bail was set for 10% of $750, and he is due in court for a status listing later this week.
