PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in an area where violent crimes are rare.
A 23-year-old man was found suffering from gunshot wounds in Manayunk just before 1 a.m. Sunday, along Leverington Street close to Main. Police said he was shot 11 times.
KYW Newsradio spoke to a woman who lives less than a block away from the scene, who preferred to remain anonymous. She said she was shocked to wake up to police tape right outside her door.
"It was a little startling because Manayunk is thought of as a safer place to live," she said. "Things could happen anywhere and it's such an unfortunate situation."
The woman said while it is a residential area, bars and restaurants are a stone's throw away.
A private vehicle took the victim to Temple University Hospital, according to police. He was pronounced dead at 1:17 a.m.
No arrests have been made and a weapon has yet to be found. However, authorities said they hope surveillance video can give them some answers.
