PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A pair of police officers in Northampton County are being hailed as heroes after rescuing an elderly woman who fell into an icy pond Sunday afternoon.
It was just after 2:30 p.m. when police said they were dispatched to the 3400 block of West Walker Drive in Lehigh Township for a 911 medical pendant activation.
When they arrived, officers found an elderly woman waving her arms in the air. She had fallen into the water while cleaning a pond pump.With the help of a neighbor, police said the two officers were able to pull the woman from the cold water.
She was taken to the hospital, where police said they learned her body temperature had dropped to 88 degrees.
Police said this incident shows the importance of elderly family members utilizing medical pendants. They said this case is proof they work and could save a life.
