PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsadio) — Police have found a body during their search for a suspect in a Monday morning shooting on the Market-Frankford El train.
Around 6 a.m., police confirm that a 27-year-old man was shot in the arm and the torso on an eastbound El train as it was approaching the Arrott Transportation Center at Frankford and Oxford avenues. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
A few hours after the shooting happened, SEPTA officials confirmed the discovery of the body which they say matched the description of the shooter. Officials later said he had tried to get away while the train was close to the Arrott Transportation Center. He was in between El cars while the train was moving, and when he jumped, he ended up under the train and was killed.
During the investigation, firefighters, police officers and SEPTA personnel were seen walking along the tracks about an hour after the shooting happened.
SEPTA switched Market-Frankford Line service over to shuttle bus service between Allegheny station and Frankford Transportation Center for a few hours. Normal service resumed later in the morning.
