Puppy Bowl has been shining the light on animal shelters and rescues for 18 years. At a watch party at Devil's Den in South Philadelphia, all of the televisions were tuned to Animal Planet for the big game.

It was Team Ruff taking on Team Fluff. More than 100 pups from shelters and rescues across the country were participating, including 10 animals from this region.

"I like Team Ruff," said one patron, Bill. "Absolutely, I like Team Ruff. But Team Fluff is a close second."

"Everybody on those teams are adoptable dogs. It's always a great event and a lot of fun," said Devil's Den owner Erin Wallace. "Even if you don't have a team in the Super Bowl there’s always somebody to root for in the Puppy Bowl."

A portion of food and beverage sales benefited Morris Animal Refuge, which brought some adoptable puppies to the party.

Morris' Grace Erickson was holding 4-month-old Thor, who is looking for a forever home.

"This year we do not have any in the bowl, we weren't able to make it out there, just with the pandemic and everything, but we still wanted to support the event," she said.

At the end of the day, Team Fluff clawed out a victory with a final score of 73-69. But the real winners are all the pups it helps.

"It's a great event for all shelters," said Erickson. "In the U.S., it's a huge, great event. It brings a lot of attention to us and we have some puppies, so we might as well make a day out of it."
