PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was arrested Monday in Kensington after police say she beat her mother close to death.
Officers were doing a well-being check at a house on Emerald Street, two blocks off the Huntingdon El Stop, just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, and discovered multiple broken windows at the home.
Police say 36-year-old Rebecca Kokat answered the door when officers knocked. It was then that they saw her 67-year-old mother lying on the floor behind her with multiple bruises on her face and arms.
Kokat was then arrested and her mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition with fractured ribs and brain bleeding.
Kokat is charged with aggravated assault and related crimes.
