PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s relief program for businesses impacted by the jet crash in Northeast Philadelphia on Jan. 31, got an extension on Monday by the city’s commerce department.
The new deadline for the program is midnight on Friday, March 7.
Grants of up to $20,000 are available for businesses that have suffered economic hardship in the aftermath of the crash.
The crash on Jan. 31 resulted in a massive fireball on Cottman Avenue near the Roosevelt Mall that spread to nearly two dozen nearby homes and businesses on the strip. The mall itself was closed for nearly a week as investigators combed the wreckage and crews also filled an eight-foot crater in the road left by the plane.
To be eligible for a grant, businesses must be independently-owned and operated with an annual revenue below $1.5 million. They should be up to date on licensing, and taxes, or have an approved tax payment plan in place.
Applicants should have tax records and evidence of the damage or lost revenue as a result of the crash. They can apply for relief through the grant portal at merchantsfund.org.
