Arrest made in the killing of Philly journalist Josh Kruger

Robert Davis, 19, also faces charges for a non-fatal shooting on Sept. 25

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The suspect who was wanted in the killing of a local journalist is now in police custody and facing charges.

Police said 19-year-old Robert Davis was arrested Wednesday night. He did not turn himself in.

He was wanted for the shooting death of 39-year-old Josh Kruger on Oct. 2. Around 1:30 a.m., police said Kruger was shot several times inside his Point Breeze home. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Some of the charges Davis is facing include possession of an instrument of crime, no license to carry, and tampering with evidence.

On Oct. 30, police announced other charges against Davis for a non-fatal shooting at the Tasker-Morris Station. Police said he fired a gun during an attempted robbery and altercation with a woman on the subway platform on Sept. 25.

He is charged with aggravated assault, no license to carry, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and related offenses.

Kruger was a journalist in Philadelphia and an advocate for LGBTQ and homeless services. He was spokesperson for the city’s Office of Homeless Services from 2016 to 2021.
