PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A federal appellate court judge who served more than three decades on the bench has died.
The Third Circuit Court of Appeals, located in Philadelphia, announced Judge Morton Ira Greenberg died last week from pneumonia. He was 87.
His death was not related to COVID-19.
The Philadelphia native was appointed to the appellate court by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. He decided on cases up until the time of his death — most recently, authoring whether city courts could audio-record bail hearings and ultimately granting a new hearing in the case.
Among current Third Circuit judges, Greenberg was the second longest-serving judge and the second-oldest. He was known for his fairness, integrity and “a sterling reputation on the bench.”
