PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A SEPTA bus crashed and flipped on its side on the Blue Route in Montgomery County early Thursday morning, injuring the driver. No passengers were on board, as the bus was out of service.
Around 1 a.m., the driver of the Route 129 bus lost control on the southbound side of the Blue Route — I-476 — close to the Chemical Road on-ramp in Plymouth Meeting, according to a SEPTA spokesperson. The bus plowed through guardrails and ended up on its side down an embankment.
The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, SEPTA said.
Around the same time and place, two cars crashed into one another but did not collide with the bus, officials said. It was not immediately clear if anyone in the cars was hurt.
It was raining when the crashes happened. SEPTA is investigating every aspect of the incident to determine how the driver lost control and if weather was a factor, officials said.
Traffic was delayed as crews worked to get the bus upright. It was finally towed away from the scene, and the right lane on I-476 southbound reopened around 6:30 a.m.
