PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- SEPTA has unveiled a tribute wall inside Suburban Station saluting frontline employees who have stayed on the job during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kim Scott Heinle, SEPTA’s assistant general manager of customer experience and advocacy, said the “Frontline Heroes Tribute Wall” salutes the sacrifices of 28 SEPTA employees who represent a diverse group of backgrounds and positions.

“Operations people, it’s facilities, engineering people, police, customer service -- there’s a number of folks who are there,” Heinle explained. “So many SEPTA employees, despite the risks and despite the hardships and the anxiety, they remain on duty, day in and day out, throughout the entire process.”

Heinle said SEPTA management decided it was time to recognize the people it considers the unsung heroes of the city and the region.

“It was just a way to celebrate, frankly, the fact that we’ve got some pretty special people at SEPTA that go unnoticed and often unappreciated,” he said. “And we want them to see how important they are to the organization and to our customers.”

Heinle said it’s just the first step in recognizing the transit agency’s work force across the system.

“Although we’re not going to change out the images on the tribute wall at 16th Street, it is the first phase of a multi-phase project that will have other walls in other locations with other people,” he said.
