Police say man fatally shot woman who tried to break into his North Philly home
NBC10

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man shot and killed a woman who was trying to break into his home in North Philadelphia, police said.

It happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday. Police said a woman attempted to get into a home on North Cleveland Street, near West Dauphin Street, through the window.

Officials said the owner was home and tried to get her to stop, but she continued trying to get in.

“It does appear that the persons inside the home were legitimately attempting to stop this person from breaking in, and, after they refused to do so, fired at that person to stop them,” said Inspector D.F. Pace.

He said the homeowner is cooperating with police, and he has not been arrested or charged with any crime.

“We’re treating this as a case of someone inside their home legitimately defending themselves inside their own home,” said Pace.

The investigation is ongoing. Pace said it is up to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office whether the homeowner should be charged in the woman’s death.

Police have not yet identified the woman who died. Pace said she had some credit cards and IDs on her, but it’s not clear whether they were hers.
