PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In a push to get young people vaccinated, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium have teamed up to give away 500 Sixers tickets to people who get their shot this weekend.
It's one of the many perks they're offering to encourage kids to vax up.
It's more like a party outside, with spoken word, performances, pretzels, water ice, and a live DJ.
Kamau Stanford of the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium said they're getting creative to incentivize young people to get vaccinated for the summer.
"When Pfizer then-reduced the number even more to 12 years old, we continued with our 'Vaccinate Before You Graduate' campaign, and then opened it up to all children ages 12 and above to receive the Pfizer vaccine," he said.
"We're starting to come up against people who probably have chosen not to get vaccinated. Now the upward battle is to properly educate people or to really lay out the facts for them in a way that they can really make an informed decision as opposed to a decision based on fear and misinformation."
Stanford says for the city of Philadelphia, parents do not have to be present for those 12 and up. No appointment is necessary. Free Ubers are still available using the Black Doctors Consortium code 10MVBDC.
People can get Sixers ticket codes (first come, first serve) at the Black Doctor’s COVID-19 Consortium Teen Week event:
