PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Water Department is working to fix a water main break in Point Breeze, where neighbors said water has been pouring out since Monday.

Water was still bubbling up from several spots in the middle of 16th Street, near Federal Street, on Wednesday morning. Cars, some still snow-covered, were parked on both sides of the street. The road wasn’t closed, so drivers splashed through as the water flowed to the drain.

Neighbors said they called the water department, and this has been an issue since Monday.

“It’s a little scary,” said neighbor Andrea Hewitt. “It’s super icy already, and I don’t know how they’re gonna deal with getting all the ice up. I feel really bad for these workers. They’re out here, they’re gonna have to fix this later.”

A department spokesperson said the water has been leaking from a six-inch main. He didn’t have a timeline for repairs.

Fortunately, no basements were flooded, and no one lost service. PGW also responded to make sure the gas infrastructure was OK.
