PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Vendors at Philadelphia’s Southeast Asian Market returned to FDR Park Saturday after a storm destroyed stands and caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Melissa Ngar said it looked like a bomb hit the outdoor market. She did what she could to save her stand, Melissa Khmer BBQ, from taking on damage when strong winds and extremely heavy rain rolled through the region.

Meteorologists said the storms were a series of microbursts, with straight-line winds between 60 and 70 mph.

Ngar said she is proud of her team for bouncing back one week later but said her business won’t recover for months.

“It’ll probably take us 2 to 3 months to get back to where we got stopped at.”

The people of Philadelphia stepped up to help, donating thousands to vendors to help rebuild.

“We are grateful we raised over $18,000 from general donations from the community.”
