PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s iconic LOVE Park turned a deep purple on Tuesday as hundreds turned out to see some of their favorite stars at a dance party with civic engagement at its core.

The stars included Bill Nye The Science Guy, Quavo, and Sixers players Reggie Jackson and KJ Martin, and the goal according Ashley Spillane with the Civic Responsibility Project — one of the party's organizers — is to get people excited to vote.

“We’re throwing a little dance party before we get out March on and party over to city hall,” said Spillane.

Tuesday was the last day in Pennsylvania for voters to request a mail-in ballot.

Nye said it was important to vote early because it motivates other friends and family to follow and also cast their ballots.

“We want people to get out and vote and voting early is good because you get it done,” he said. “It’s in the system and will be counted.”

Theta, a volunteer that came all the way to Philly from Washington D.C. for the party said she’s a big believer in a little pomp and circumstance when it comes to voting.

“I’m a boomer. We used to say power to the people…you know people have the power,” she said. “Each of us can be in control if we exercise our vote.”

Election Day is less than a week away on Nov. 5.
