PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Have you ever heard the term blue zone? It was coined just seven years ago in a National Geographic article.

A scientist examined what he called blue zones, the five places in the world where people were more likely to live to be 100 years old. They include Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Loma Linda, California. Areas in Greece and Costa Rica were also extensively reviewed.

Since then, there have been numerous articles written and popular documentaries released looking into blue zones.

Some common things people from these areas share include plant-based diets, reduced stress, a sense of family and community, and natural movement. One of the most interesting is the 80% diet rule, which is stopping your meal when you are 80% full.
