PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The man Norristown police sought for his suspected involvement in a deadly hit-and-run, last Sunday, turned himself in on Saturday morning.
Jean Carlos Emeraldas Cruz, 26, was sought by police for being the suspected driver of a dark-colored SUV that struck and killed 57-year-old Brian Clark on West Main Street in Norristown around 10:48 p.m. on the night of May 19.
A witness told investigators the SUV was speeding eastbound on Main when it struck Clark, then fled north on Markley Street
In the criminal complaint, Cruz's co-worker said he was in that dark-colored SUV when it struck Clark. The co-worker also said Cruz does not have a license and that he helped him conceal the damage on the vehicle with a sheet.
A warrant for Cruz's arrest was issued on May 23. Just two days later, Cruz turned himself in.
Before Saturday, Cruz had not been seen, according to the charging documents.
He faces five charges in total and has bail set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the morning of June 7.
