PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A vehicle wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Southwest Philadelphia early Monday morning has been recovered and police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver.
Police said Talyia Bernice Nesmith, 29, was getting out of a rideshare car around 3:30 a.m. near 72nd Street and Elmwood Avenue, when she was hit by a speeding vehicle, knocking her into a parked car. Nesmith was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Officials said the striking vehicle, a black 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat, was believed to have been stolen from the Olney area. A vehicle matching its description was located in Delaware County.
In a news conference Wednesday, Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said the car was found Tuesday evening on Broadway and Oak avenues in Upper Darby.
“It is now being processed for forensics evidence. In reference to our offender, we do not have anyone in custody as of yet,” he said.
“Anybody from the public who may know anything about this theft, who may know who was operating that Dodge Hellcat, we are urging them to call us either at our tip line (at 215-686-8477) or our Crash Investigation Division.”
