PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was shot and killed near a North Philadelphia church early Friday morning. Police believe she was targeted, and they are looking for whoever pulled the trigger.
Shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to 911 calls for reports of gunshots at 20th Street and Lehigh Avenue.
Officers found a bleeding woman by a metal fence in front of Deliverance Evangelistic Church. She had been shot in the head, face and chest, and there were eight spent shell casings near her body, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.
“Some were just inches away from where she was lying and the others are just a few feet away. So clearly, the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to this victim when these eight shots were fired,” Small said.
The 29-year-old victim, who later died at the hospital, was not immediately identified. Police do not know why she was targeted.
No one has been arrested.
