SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A grand jury has indicted a teacher from Cape May Court House who police said sexually abused one of her former students and had a child by him.

Laura Caron was a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School. Investigators said the 34-year-old was 28 when she began an inappropriate sexual relationship with the boy.

The relationship lasted from 2016 to 2020, and she eventually had his baby, authorities said.

A grand jury handed down a multi-count indictment, including aggravated sexual assault. For a time, the victim was living in Caron’s home, along with one of his siblings, who investigators said witnessed some of the sexual assaults.

Earlier this year, the victim, who is now an adult, told the Daily Mail he initiated the sexual relationship with Caron and he doesn’t want her to be charged with anything.

This all first came to light when the victim’s father saw a Facebook post of the baby and noticed a striking resemblance to his son.

So far, no date for a trial has been announced.
