PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A teenager has admitted to intentionally setting a fire that destroyed a vacant warehouse last month in Allentown.
According to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office, a 15-year-old boy admitted to charges of arson and causing a catastrophe over the June 24 fire at the former American Atelier factory at Front and Gordon streets.
The fast-moving blaze grew to six alarms within 15 minutes of firefighters arriving on the scene and damaged several other properties and vehicles near the 300 block of Front Street.
No residents were injured, but several were displaced.
The teen is charged with arson and causing a catastrophe, and is currently in custody at a juvenile facility that is offering treatment for "fire setters." Another juvenile charged in the case is going through the juvenile justice system. Officials said additional information on his case can not be shared because of existing juvenile law.
